when it all goes so terribly wrong and you lose everything
It was 4am on Sunday Morning when the Nabiyonga and the Nachibiso rivers broke there banks. Most were still asleep when the torrent of waters swept through catching many unaware of the destruction and loss of life that this event was causing. Homes livestock and families were swept away as friends and family members struggled to save children and family whilst not losing their own lives. Over 50 people died in just a short few hours and over 200,000 people were displaced with loss of homes and livelihoods.
This was an experience unseen in local living memory and will impact the community for a long time to come. Hearthstone Unity and our partners JOIN-UG and WCFL-UG have provided food relief, bedding and building resources directly into some of the poorest and overlooked village communities affected.

Thank you friends for your great support, We brought beddings for 2 families and are supporting another family left with 2 deaf children who were abandoned by their father because they are deaf.
Peter provides assistance for a Masaba Village survivor. A father of 5 (seen in the shadows). When the floods swept through his wife fled their home with two little children and left him with these three older children. Left homeless they took shelter in this grass thatched house with no food, no clothes, no bedding, everything they has was buried in the mud or carried away by the floods.
